Pfizer has been sued in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, over the anti-depressant drug, Zoloft.  The suit was filed by Susan and James Hodge claiming that their newborn son died of anencephaly (lacking part of his brain) 18 hours after his birth, and that Pfizer covered up studies which showed that Zoloft caused the fatal side effect.

Pfizer is the world's biggest drug company and the maker of Zoloft, an antidepressant in the class of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.  The Hodges alledged that Pfizer knew of the risks associated with the drug, but did nothing to change the warning label of the drug.  The complaint states that "..prior to the mother plaintiff's pregnancy, Pfizer had the knowledge, the means, and the duty to provide the medical community and the consuming public with a stronger warning regarding the asociation between Zoloft and congenital birth defects... .  Pfizer breached this duty."

The Hodges have filed for punitive damages and negligence, as well as other claims.
