Hip and Knee Recalls

When a manufacturer issues a hip or knee replacement recall, patients who received their implants are naturally concerned about the defective device’s negative effects on their body. Whether you have received news of a recall or are concerned about recent hip or knee problems that may be related to the implant, it is a good time to talk to a product liability lawyer.

Pascagoula defective product lawyer, Jerry Taylor and his experienced Alabama personal injury team handle a wide variety of dangerous medical device cases, including hip and knee recalls.

If you or a loved one has suffered as the result of a defective hip or knee replacement, please call (855) 646-4355 or e-mail the Taylor Law Firm. Those who have had defective knee or hip replacement systems implanted may be able to file for substantial compensation for damages like pain, suffering, medical expenses, lost income, and disfigurement.

Hip & Knee Replacement Problems

Most cases of hip and knee replacement recalls are attributed to a defect in design or a manufacturing problem. Mandatory or voluntary recalls are often due to the release of metal, high failure rate, faulty components, and other issues that damage tissue, cause pain, and force patients to have revision surgeries.

One of the most serious recalls was the DePuy hip implant recall. DePuy Orthopaedics, a Johnson & Johnson company, recalled its ACR line of hip replacement implants because of a very high failure rate, 12 or 13% within the first five years, according to statistics from one registry. These implants have also been associated with the release of dangerous metal fragments that can cause local tissue damage and systemic effects including loss of memory, vision, and muscle control.

Another line of joint replacements showing serious problems is the Zimmer NexGen knee. One study reported that 36% of patients with the implant experienced loosening and 9% required surgery. The researcher was quoted as saying, the NexGen knee implant "should not be used for any patient." However, Zimmer has denied these charges, and despite two recent recalls the implant remains on the market.

If you underwent hip or knee replacement and you are now having problems, we can do the research to find out if you have a defective or previously recalled medical implant in your body.
