Actos Users Beware

Actos was given its most recent warning by the FDA regarding bladder cancer about six months ago.  Nevertheless, it continues to be prescribed to new patients in the United States, and to the million or so current users.  If anyone reading this is currently on Actos, be aware that the most recent FDA warning reduced the time frame for risk of developing bladder cancer to just one year.  There are medical studies to back up these warnings that can be found on the FDA website.  As usual, Europe is way ahead of the FDA in protecting patients.  One country has prohibited its use altogether, while another has prohibited all prescriptions for new Actos users.  It is unknown whether there will be an actual Actos recall here in the U.S., but current users should consult their physicians immediately about continued use of the drug.
